The more the merrier

We are getting some company in Hanoi. Besides the one family that is currently here (that has travelled with us from our Giving and Receiving Ceremony), there is now another family, and on Christmas Eve 3 more families will arrive. That will make 6 families in Hanoi with our adoption agency. Unfortunately, only one of the three families currently knows that they are able to get their visa soon. It is my guess that the rest of the families will get their visas at around the same time. The good news...we (and after the 28th, Barbie and Julia) will have more Americans around to commiserate with. I am glad for Barbie's sake that she will have some sort of support nearby when the rest of us leave.

Tonight we had dinner with a Minnesota family who arrived here yesterday. They have a 5 or 6 year old son, and have a newly adopted 2 1/2 year old daughter. We had a great time with them at dinner. Thomas and Helen really loved goofing off with the boy. It was nice having other adults to talk with as well.

Earlier today we made a trek to the Old Quarter in search of Christmas cheer. We browsed the Lego store and the Mattell store. These two stores seem really out of place in the Old Quarter (which is nothing like a shopping mall). The Old Quarter is much more like a Bazaar which makes it strange to see these types of stores. We found our Christmas cheer in the form of 3 foot tall artificial christmas tree and a few ornaments. We got lights and the whole deal. We came back to the hotel and ordered pizza for lunch (from pizza 112) and decorated the tree. It's not quite like Minnesota, but at least it's something.

Well, that's about all we have for now. Tomorrow we hope to go somewhere to go swimming. We'll let you know if we were successful!

Take care,
Doug

Doug and Barbie,

Hopefully this finds you well and having happily swam the day away. We leave today to go down south to have Christmas with both sides of the family. We'll miss you guys but know that your absence has a great purpose!

It'll be kind of weird not hearing from you every day when you return from Vietnam. I think that you should continue to post anyway to let us know how the "adjustment" phase is! It's been so nice to hear your "play by plays"!

The kids and I pray for you all every night. We pray protection over you and for God's hand in the timing of things. They are excited to meet Julia. We all are.

Take care and God bless.

Love,
Cindy

Tonight, mom & dad watched bennie & my kids while we went with our wives & the roberts to evansville. We watched Sweeney Todd. I couldn't get JohnnyB singing "Joanna" out of my head. (But then again, why would I have wanted to?)

It was a depp/burton film.

I never had any idea what the story of sweeney todd was. All I knew was it had something to do with Joanna. Turns out it's awfully twisted.

When we got back to pick up the kids from mom & dad's, dad had found that the tile he had laid around the toilet drain was about a quarter inch lacking in diameter (the hole, rather...not the tile)

Having already laid the tile, he was having none too good a time trying to fix the problem.

I left him about 11:30 p.m. I hope he got his problem fixed. I don't reckon it'll all be ready for all the family when they get there tomorrow--but that's ok. We got plenty of showers @ our house--just a 30 minute drive!

Oh yeah...after sweeney todd, we went to some highfalootin "change the menu every week because we're just that cool" expensive fancy place to eat in evansville. 4 of us got the tuna--which was delightful.

I don't guess "Sweeney Todd" is playing over in Hanoi right now, is it?
