Greetings from Hanoi where our day finally consisted of mostly adoption related things. Doug went to the immigration police station this morning to pick up Julia's passport. That went well. Then this afternoon we had her medical exam. The doctor pronounced her "A very cute one" so what we already knew is now official! The appointment process took about 45 minutes. It turns out that Julia is not a fan of doctors or nurses. Then we needed to wait in the waiting room for almost 2 more hours to get the official papers from the clinic to take to the US Embassy. Thankfully, Julia slept for 1 1/2 hours of that time and Thomas and Helen spent the afternoon with my parents and sister so the waiting wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been.
This evening Doug emailed the US Consulate in hopes that that might push things along with the visa. We shall see. It will now just be an anxious waiting game while we wait for the magic call or email that says we can schedule our visa interview. If only getting pre-approval for her visa was as easy as all the "You are pre-approved for the new Visa Card" that we seem to get almost daily in our mail...
While we wait we are headed out on a two day excursion to a place called Ha Long Bay that is suppose to be very beautiful. (For you Amazing Race watchers, this was one of the places that the teams went to a couple of seasons ago.) Since we are not sure what the internet situation will be there, you might not hear from us until Wednesday.
Other than that, there is not much new to report. Hope that you are all doing well.

P.S. Scooter update - Doug saw a scooter today that had 3 adults, a child and a baby so that is now the new record. (And for this a typical American family would need a minivan. Silly Americans.)

What wonderful news!!! Things are moving along. Now the next part will be the hardest. Thank you for all of time it takes to let us all know about your days. I am sure when bed time rolls around the last thing you want to do is go down to the lobby and spend sleep time updating us, but we sure do appreciate it (alot). We are all praying for a speedy visa process and a quick and safe return for your family. You are not missing anything here.........Tammy did make a wonderful coffee cake this weekend for treats. I'm sure Doug would have had two pieces, Keith did but whose counting. Take Care and enjoy your warm weather.
Love,
Angie W.
As I read your daily updates, I am continually amazed by the experience that you all are having right now. As one who loves to travel, I'm living a bit vicariously through you all. I can't wait to see pictures to see if they match up with my mental image of all the places you are seeing. Of course, the whole point is Julia, and I hope that you all can come home quickly.
Lots of love,
--Annie
Dear Doug, Barbie and gang, We were so glad everything went along as scheduled yesterday and now we pray the visa comes through in a timely fashion. Wen hope you enjoy your excursion the nest two days. We were in Mankato yesterday and Grandma K. hopes you have taken some pictures of the cyclos and scooters as we are having a hard time visualizing just how they can get sucj a load on a small vehicle. We can hardly imagine how much Thomas is absorbing and enjoying this whole trip although I'm sure there are rough spots. We had snow over the weekend and are getting some again today. Julia will have another new thing to grasp when you get to Minnesota. Rylee thinks the snow is great fun. Our love and prayers, Marie and Nick
