Hello faithful blog readers,
Congratulations on sticking with the blog reading for this long. It's been a long time and it's going to be a bit longer. We didn't learn anything today about the progress on Julia's visa, so we're not going to be able to come home on the 23rd. We're disappointed, but I think at this point we are going to be very surprised when the Visa does come through.
Tomorrow I will go to the airline office and try to change our tickets. We will try to change the flights for the 30th of December (pending flight availability). We hope that we will all be able to use those tickets, but if we don't have the visa, then Thomas, Helen, and I will come back and leave the other two girls here (insert big frown here). We knew all along that this would be a possibility, but we didn't think it was a highly likely possibility. Besides the obvious reasons that I would be disappointed for having to split up (missing each other, not having each other to help, Barbie being away from home even LONGER, and Julia delaying further her entry to her new home), it would be a bummer for me that I would not get to see the process through to the end that we have been breathing, eating, and sleeping for the past 2 years. Oh, well...you do what you have to do, eh?
There's not much to report other than that today. We stuck around the hotel much of the day checking the email every hour to make sure that we hadn't received any news. We did hear a response from the government that they could not ensure that we would get our visa when we hope to get it. I guess that we already know that.
I must also tell you a little bit about our agency's representative in Hanoi, Mr. Hien. Mr. Hien is a great young man who helps with paperwork with the DIA (Vietnam's intercountry adoption agency), helps us through the paperwork process in Hanoi, helps get accommodations for us, takes me to the airline office to change flights, helps me negotiate with hotels and travel agents, helps us plan things to do, and calls us at least once a day to check on us and see how we are doing. He has been most helpful during our time here and we are most appreciative of him. He always has a smile on his face and a kind demeanor. While waiting for paperwork, meeting in the hotel lobby to discuss scenarios, calling him to ask for advice on restaurants, and other interactions, I have had the chance to talk to this fellow for several hours, and he is a genuinely nice guy and very helpful. When we first got here, he made sure that we had his cell phone number and he told us, "If you need anything you call Mr. Hien." I asked him, "Even at 3AM?" Mr. Hien replied, "Of course!" I am thankful for Mr. Hien. He has been very helpful and I consider him a good friend.
A couple notes on Julia: I think that at this point she knows that Barbie is good cop and I am the bad cop. Right before I came down to the hotel lobby to blog, Barbie was sitting on the bed next to Julia, and the little girl was crawling around and trying to stand up. She was supposed to be going to sleep. I looked at her and said, "Julia" and immediately she laid down and stared at me. I think as soon as I left she probably got back up and started playing. Another thing about Barbie, Julia, and me...Julia now gives kisses. She puckers up and screws up her face and says, "MMMMMM" and then accepts a kiss. She is very free with her kisses with Barbie. However, she usually turns away from me. However, sometimes when I tell her not to do something, sometimes she starts kissing me to try and get me to forget about what she was doing. I think I'm in for a rough 17 years.
Talk with you later.
Doug

Hi my dear family,
Merry Christmas and we already know that your new year is going to be quite special! I thank God everyday for my new grandaughter and also for all the good health and protection that he has given all of you on this adventure. You might not want to hear this but the other day I was praying for you and the thought came to my mind---Grandpa Bunton told me once that be careful what you keep praying for cause you might get it and it might not be the best for you so I am praying for a comfortable safe trip for all of you in God's timing.
Your first Christmas as a family will be spent with Julia in her native country! You will always remember that.
Tell the kids that grandma will be sending their stocking in the mail whenever you all get home.
I love you all so much and hope that you will be coming home very soon----in God's time which will be a safe and well planned trip, weather and availability of seats.
Remember to catch the "Reason for the Season" and know that you have
now another life to instruct about our Lord and Savior Jesus. What an awesome Idea!!!
Love and Prayers
Hey all,
One more week...
It may sound like too much and maybe feel like too much but when I read about Doug and the "next 17 years"...a week isn't too much in the whole scheme of things. I just read Mom's comment and I want to emphasize emphatically that I believe with all my heart that God is in control and we have to trust His timing. Hopefully that brings a little peace.
We love you and only want "the best stuff for you guys"...I think I heard that somewhere on a movie lately. =) Happy Holidays!
Luv,
Cindy
That last post was really me...Mom and Ruth are at my house today. Ruth has a job interview at Chatham High School to teach Biology starting in January. I'm psyched for her to get it cuz she'd be living with me (at least for a while). That would make me happy!!
Well, signing off!
Love,
Cindy
TOASTER OVEN UPDATE!
So Annie signed me & Owen up to ring bells @ the IGA for the salvation army tonight, so we did that from 5-6...then at 6 we all met at mexican for dinner.
Afterward, Annie had to go to wal-mart to get some ny-quil (it's that time of year!) and bread, so me and the kids went home (we had driven separately) while she went to wal-mart. She called me and asked if I wanted her to see if the toaster oven was there, and I said "by all means!"
I thought about it all...about toaster ovens...and wal-mart...and taking the kids home...and motor scooters...and I thought, "If I take the kids home now by myself, while Annie goes to Wal-mart to get the toaster oven, and she does in fact get the toaster oven, and comes home with it later, does that portend as an omen for doug and his family?"
I thought about it awhile, and decided that it most certainly did.
I waited at home with the kids...put some dishes away, washed up some post-birthday cake pans...and waited...wondering if my dream of a $30 toaster oven was finally about to come true.
Finally, annie got home. And SHE HAD THE TOASTER OVEN!
But...wait...what is this? It turns out, while she DID, in fact, bring home a $30 toaster oven...it was NOT THE ONE WE HAD CHOSEN TOGETHER!
DUN-DUN-DUUUUNNNNN!
I have no idea what that means for you guys...maybe give Julia a nametag or something, Barbie...and don't let her run around in groups of similar-looking children.
hey guys!
i don't really have much to say. i took your family picture around to people at school today. everyone thought your children were adorable. (i was like...well duh, they are MY family) but i am bummed that it is delayed. i know you all said that it could be like this....but i didn't really think it would be.
